1. Real Goal
Ask yourself – Do you have it? Do you have a dream to accomplish which makes you sleepless? Do you have a wish for which you are willing to work hard? Is there something missing in your life even after getting it? – If the answer to these questions is “YES”, well you already have a real goal. Real goal in my experience is something which gave me satisfaction, which gave me inner peace. Let me just tell you a short story about how I actual found a goal.
India has been highly uneven when it comes to distribution of money across the society. So this story is just about one such person – a beggar who made me understand what I really feel good. Just like most of you are, I too was busy earning good those days. After an exhausting day, I was out to give myself a treat -You often end up alone in corporate life. I bought a delicious ice-cream for me. While savouring the delicacy, I realised there was this beggar, staring at me with his red blood eyes, lean and starving as his gestures indicated. Considering him to be just like other beggars, I tried to ignore him. It was after a while that a small child walked down to the beggar and started weeping & speaking something in his ears. I tried to note for few minutes and then heard the voice of beggar telling something to the passer by. He asked for food rather than money – Some food to feed his family.
This moment made me feel sorry for the Dad who is not able to feed his children. I immediately got them some food items from a nearby shop, sat a little away merely staring at them with a smile as they ate. Their smile, their satisfaction gave me the delight. The same night I went back through my memories realising how similar moments occurred even earlier and these were the moments which made me happy. Happiness in life is the real goal after all 🙂
This might make you wonder, how is that a goal – to be happy ? Well, it is the ultimate goal – The things that we run behind are merely different ways to achieve it. Dig into your life, you also would have some similar moments which made you happy, which made you feel proud. Often we end up thinking MONEY to be the ultimate goal, I used to think the same. However, as I say, my life has been an experience and I have met people who are happy with very little. Hence, If money actually has the potential to serve your Real Goal, run for it until it does not hinder your goal.
2. Working towards Real Goal
Now, the point comes about working towards the REAL GOAL. In my life personally, I’ve often diverted my path from my goal and I realise that. This is one of the reason I am writing this article. The world is modernising at a pace which is tough to keep up. The changes in the technologies, changes in way of life, changes in the overall scenario of upgrading lifestyle – all lead to a distraction. They force us to think differently every now and then. A tinge of a diverging thought will put you far off the path leading to your goal. This makes it necessary for you to be awakened about what you wish to achieve and make sure you do not diverge from the goal.
That’s too much of philosophy. Now a little about what I did to start working towards my goal. Below is a list of some small steps I took to slowly work towards achieving the goal.
2.1 What made me happy?
The first step I took was to find out what made me happy exactly in the beggar scenario I conveyed above. It was the satisfaction of the people I helped, it was their blessings or gestures they showed when I helped. This made me realise that I am selfish in a good sense. I expect people to be happy when I help. So I concluded that the source of my happiness is not lying in just helping others to be happy, it lies in the appreciation of efforts that I put in.
2.2 How did I test my thoughts?
It is always good to make sure you are on the right path – So did I. In order to be sure that it was the appreciation and not the money that made me happy, I tested myself. I tested my happiness by doing deeds or tasks which earned me nothing but appreciation, blessings or smiles of people. I helped such poor families, I did tasks for people without caring for money, I taught people for free – This made me happy. The happiness of opposite person or group actually gave a feeling of satisfaction in my gut. This is what made me sure about working towards the path to make others happy and not caring for revenue or any other by product.
2.3 How am I working towards my goal?
This blog is just one of the many steps to serve the community around. This blog is created not just to write articles from my end, it is a sort of open platform where you can post your questions, queries or confusions and I try to get you the answers from the best of sources – Personal or virtual. Apart from this, I have also been tutoring for social causes without any charges, I often develop websites for free, I have opened myself up to teach people for free, spread knowledge and help them progress in their career. I have been looking out for NGO activities or social occasions where I can actually work towards a cause that would help others. Today, I have no complaints about what I earn or how much I earn – Not that it is high enough but it is able to satisfy my goal of helping people and surviving myself too.
3. How could one live without craving for money?
This has been a misconception that even I have experienced in my life. I used to have a craving for money from all the sources the I can find. I did the most I could – Endless work, running places to get projects, working overnights with a long workday. This never led me to good amount of money but ended up leaving my life miserable. I have also been in a situation where you feel like giving it up all even when you have still a lot to look up to. Today, I am peacefully able to write this just because the miserable life made me realise what I actually wanted or what most people actually need. Most of the people I met in my life run after 2 things – Peace or Money. None of them in today’s world are really running behind both. This is where the problem lies – Get yourself a life which helps you earn peacefully. Give it a try and forget the money you earn against what you do. Do what you are doing or what you like without an expectation, money follows. Today, I stand here realising that money has been coming autonomously if I give my 100% dedication to what I do. The appreciation is an icing on the cake of money.
So do not crave or run for money, live a life and work towards your real goal rather than material goals in life.
